Gowan Health is helping to bring the 60 Summits Project to Ontario... The 60 Summits Project's objective is to prevent needless work disability by supporting a new paradigm proposed in the ACOEM Guidance Document created in 2005 called "Preventing Needless Disability through a Stay at Work/Return to Work Initiative". Nancy Gowan has published a new book "The HR Manager's Guide to Managing Disability in the Workplace" with Carswell publishing.This book provides the Human Resources Professional with practical tools to use and guidelines to follow to create the practices and policies that will pro-actively manage effective disability programs. The book is sectioned into several components including prevention of disability, managing disability and accessibility, return to work planning and accommodating individuals with disabilities in the workplace. The forms, checklists and flowcharts are provided on a CD included with the book.
Nancy Gowan has also published a Utube 5 minute information session on the Principles of Return to Work with HR Reporter.

The Ontario Summit to Prevent Work Disability had over 140 stakeholders in attendance in May 2010. What an exhilarating evening and day where we were able to hear from Peter Page, Dr. Ian Arnold, Dr. David Brown, the Honourable Peter Fonseca, Bill Wilkerson, and Steve Mahoney. We were able to spend the day with Dr. Jennifer Christian who provided us with the direction and excitement to commit to real action plans to change Ontario.
