Cognitive Demands Analysis Training

Cognitive Demands Analysis (CDA) is an assessment of the cognitive demands of a particular job role in the workplace and includes identifying the essential job duties and the cognitive behavioural demands placed on a worker. This provides insight into the cognitive needs of a specific position and the stressors that exist within it.

CDAs play a crucial role for employers in:

  • designing jobs that align with employees' cognitive capabilities,
  • identifying cognitive accommodations,
  • creating effective return to work plans, and
  • implementing proper risk management measures in the workplace

Cognitive Demands Analysis Training gives occupational health professionals the tools to conduct CDAs and provide employers a clear picture of unique challenges and risks presented in their workplace. This knowledge can help employers put preventative programs in place to address job and skills gaps, and can also help disability managers and HR employees respond to accommodation and return to work cases as they arise.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the fundamentals of CDA and its role in disability management
  • Define cognition and cognitive demands, and understand the impact of non-apparent disabilities on cognition
  • Determine when a CDA is needed and prepare the necessary tools and information
  • Objectively assess and measure cognitive demands, as well as effectively document the CDA process
  • Use CDA findings for return to work planning and implementing cognitive accommodations

  • Instruction from the trainer via modules/presentation slides, two workbooks with tools, templates and resources, and a sample report
  • Instructor review and feedback on a final CDA assignment

Krystle E.

Over the course of 2 days, the CDA certificate program effectively and efficiently enabled me to develop the skills to be able to confidently perform, and generate an objective CDA. I have taken both the CDA and CBT courses, and have found them to be thought-provoking, applicable, challenging and relevant to better assist in RTW cases.

Much appreciated, attending the course has made me look at assessments from a different perspective, that I think is helpful in selecting the correct candidate for a job, identifying training opportunities and easy improvements to reduce the cognitive burden during task completion (particularly for someone brand new to a task) and also for accommodating someone with cognitive difficulties. I look forward to an opportunity to join one of your courses in the future.
